Second Sunday Summer Concerts
Arlington continues its long-standing tradition of music on the grounds again in 2010 with the "Second Sunday At Seven" Summer Concert Series.
This concert series harkens back to the days, in the early years of the 20th Century, when Arlington was known as the Johnson Picnic Grove. Music was a regular part of the activities that took place on Sunday afternoons at the picnic grove and even though those days are merely a faint, but sweet memory, Arlington's managment has, over the past 20 years, revived the music theme that is a part of its history.
As befits the title of the event, a concert is held on the second Sunday of June, July and August on the South Lawn of the Arlington Lake. Each concert begins at 7:00 PM and lasts approximately 90 minutes. The picturesqe South Lawn, with its natural canopy of shade tress, is a perfect setting for this activity even during the heat of the summer. Typically, each concert carries its own theme with refreshments available, courtesy of Arlington. The music has a definite "big band" flavor but there is also variety with jazz and other types of music featured from time-to-time.
The concerts this year feature the following: in June (6/13/10), the New Horizons Band will be featured. In July (7/11/10), a favorite, the Cincinnati Civic Orchestra will be featured. And, to wrap-up the season, in August (8/8/10), another favorite, the After Hours Big Band will take the stage.
As the time approaches for each concert, please check back at this site for weather predictions and updates.
